Funded recently by the National Institutes of Health with more than $423,000 over three years, Tao Xu, Ph.D., assistant professor and co-head of UTEP's Regenerative Bioengineering and Biomodeling Laboratory, is conducting research to improve the survival rate of injected stem cells by adding oxygen-releasing particles within improved stem cell micro-environments. In the future, UTEP will collaborate with Texas Tech University and other local hospitals to perform studies and clinical trials.
