El Paso Children’s Hospital hired Benjamin Carcamo, MD, in April as one of its pediatric oncologists. Dr. Carcamo comes to El Paso Children’s Hospital from Providence Memorial Hospital in El Paso. He, along with doctors Lynn Mulne and Mary Lacaze, helped build El Paso Children’s Hospital’s hematology/oncology program. He has more than 20 years experience as a pediatric oncologist. He attended medical school at Universidad de San Carlos, Facultad de Ciencias Medicas, Guatemala City, Guatemala and conducted his training in pediatric hematology and oncology at Baylor College of Medicine. Carcamo said he chose to work at El Paso Children’s Hospital because “El Paso Children’s Hospital does not have any other goal than to support children,” he said. “I have been here for no more than a few weeks; but, what has mostly impressed me is that everybody here has a very positive attitude and is eager to make this place work. I get the feeling that everybody knows that we are working to make something very special for El Paso. That what we are building is something that is going to survive any of us and provide outstanding care for El Paso children for years to come.”
