Representatives of Cowboys for Cancer Research met with New Mexico State University President Barbara Couture recently to present a check for the second installment of their multi-year pledge to establish a $1.5 million endowed fund to support cancer research. The check was for $330,000 to the Cowboys for Cancer Research Endowment.

The collective fundraising efforts of Cowboys for Cancer Research and NMSU Aggies Are Tough Enough to Wear Pink (TETWP) raised a combined $954,945 in cash and in-kind contributions this year.  The partnership between the two organizations raises money for cancer research that takes place at NMSU and UNM, said Kevin Davis, Cowboys for Cancer Research president. After operational expenses are paid, the cash raised is invested in the Alma Cohorn Memorial/Cowboys for Cancer Research Endowment at the University of New Mexico Cancer & Research Center and the Cowboys for Cancer Research Endowed Fund at New Mexico State University. Cowboys for Cancer Research raised $390,590.45 and TETWP raised $563,956.20.

NMSU receives $275K to establish endowment for cancer research  [orginally posted Apr. 25, 2011]

Cowboys for Cancer Research Inc. announced on April 21 a commitment to establish a $1.5 million endowment through the New Mexico State University Foundation to fund cancer research. An initial gift of $275,000 will launch the endowment with a plan to add funding each year until the principal value reaches $1.5 million.

NMSU and UNM cancer researchers receive $60,000 to continue collaborations  [orginally posted Mar. 25, 2011]

Women’s cancer researchers at New Mexico State University and the University of New Mexico recently got a $60,000 grant from local fundraisers dedicated to the concept of research collaboration by the two New Mexico institutions. Cowboys for Cancer Research, a Las Cruces- based nonprofit, and NMSU Aggies Are Tough Enough to Wear Pink, a group that organizes a football benefit and related activities, annually donate proceeds from their fundraising events to NMSU-UNM research partnerships. Of the $60,000 raised this year, $20,000 will support a longstanding collaboration between Jeffrey Arterburn at NMSU and Eric Prossnitz at UNM, while $40,000 will fund research jointly undertaken by Dr. Joe Song of NMSU and Dr. Angela Wandinger-Ness and Dr. Laurie Hudson at UNM.
