The United States-México Border Health Commission (BHC) is pleased to announce that Julia Goldberg will serve as the Acting General Manager for the U.S. Section of the BHC. She joined the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Office of Global Affairs, on Sept. 26, 2011. She will be stationed in El Paso until a permanent general manager is hired.
Until recently, Goldberg had been conducting research in México City, México, as a Fulbright-García-Robles grantee, on an infectious disease epidemiologic surveillance project entitled, “Early Warning of Infectious Disease Surveillance Systems: A U.S.-Mexico Border Response.” In México, Julia partnered with the United States-Mexico Foundation for Science, several Mexican Ministry of Health counterparts, and HHS. Immediately before her Fulbright grant, Julia was a global health analyst at the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) covering a range of international health topics on maternal and child health. From 2008-2010, she served as an international health analyst at OGA coordinating HHS activities in the Americas region and supporting the U.S. Section of the BHC. Julia was also a Truman Scholar Fellow with OGA in 2006.
